Mayo solicitor's decision to step away from criminal side of his practice 'a huge loss'

The popular and skilled solicitor is devoting himself to other aspects of his busy legal practice.

A prominent Mayo solicitor has decided to step away from the criminal law side of his practice.

Ballina-based solicitor Michael Bohan made the announcement that Wednesday’s sitting of Belmullet District Court was to be his last for criminal business.

The Belmullet-native is one of the most highly regarded legal practitioners in the county and for more than 30 years he was a mainstay in the District Courts, particularly in the Ballina and Belmullet areas. His sharp legal mind and down-to-earth approach marked him out amongst his peers.

Mr Bohan told the Western People that he did not take the decision lightly but felt the time was right to focus on the other aspects of his busy legal practice.

“It’s a huge loss to Belmullet District Court,” said Judge Fiona Lydon on his final appearance.

The Judge praised his legal skills and acumen.
