Mayo man, 85, is back in court
A man who was discovered drunk at a Swinford hotel has been convicted of a public order offence.
William Lavelle, aged 85,of Glosh Hill, Blacksod, failed to appear before Ballina District Court.
The court was told that Gardaí were called to the Gateway Hotel in Swinford at 7.30pm on August 8, 2026. Lavelle was argumentative but left the premises when asked to do so by Gardaí.
However, when approached again outside by Gardaí on Main Street, Lavelle was found to be intoxicated to such an extent that he was deemed to be a danger to himself or others. He was arrested and taken to Ballina Garda Station.
The court heard Lavelle has seven previous convictions for similar offences.
Judge Alan Mitchell convicted and fined the man €50.
