Man gets community service for Castlebar assault

The defendant pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court.
A part-time fisherman must undertake community service for an assault incident.
Patryk Zdunek, aged 31, of Lakeview, Castlebar, pleaded guilty at the local district court to assault causing harm to Johnny Rodgers, Spencer Park, Castlebar.
The court previously heard that Mr Rodgers attended Castlebar Garda Station on March 3, 2022, to report an assault. He had suffered an injury to his upper lip.
A patrol car found Zdunek around The Mall. He was shown CCTV footage from around the time of the incident and admitted to carrying out the assault.
In a victim impact statement, Mr Rodgers said he found Zdunek "menacing" during the incident and it had a profound psychological impact on him.
Zdunek has several previous convictions.
Defending solicitor Tom Walsh said Zdunek works on fishing vessels catching crabs and lobsters in Clew Bay. He has brought compensation of €2,500 to court for the victim.
Judge Fiona Lydon ordered the defendant to undertake 240 hours of community service instead of six months in prison.
