Man charged in connection with South Mayo burglaries

One of the men will appear at Castlebar District Court in connection with the two alleged burglaries.

Two men were arrested and one has been charged and is due to appear in court this evening (Saturday), in connection with burglaries which occurred at two Ballinrobe retail premises.

It is understood the pair were detained by gardaí on Friday in connection with the theft of alcohol and cigarettes after a break-in at Cummins Supervalu on New Street in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The two men were subsequently arrested in the vicinity of the Emo service station on Bowgate Street following a second alleged burglary that occurred in the early hours of Friday morning.

A source told the Western People the men have been questioned by gardaí who believe the two burglaries are connected.

One of the men is due to appear at Castlebar District Court this evening at 6pm and he is facing two charges in connection with the two alleged burglaries on Thursday and Friday.

The second man has been released without charge and files are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
