Heroin found in raid on Ballina home

Castlebar District Court heard that the heroin was for the man's own use.
A man has been given a suspended jail sentence after heroin was found at his home.
George Kinsella, aged 51, of Corcoran Terrace, Ballina pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court to possessing heroin.
Gda James O’Brien told the court that he executed a search warrant at Kinsella’s address at 6.40pm on December 24, 2020.
During the search, two plastic wraps containing brown powder were seized. Further analysis confirmed the powder to be four grams of heroin with a street value of €560. Kinsella later admitted it was for his own use.
Solicitor Gary Mulchrone said his client had several previous convictions between 1990 and 1999 that were driven by his addiction issues, but he had stayed out of trouble in the intervening period. Mr Mulchrone said his client is now living in Dublin, having left Ballina in June 2021.
Judge Vincent Deane imposed a five-month suspended jail sentence.
