Drunk man was found near railway tracks in Mayo town

The defendant pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court. 

A man who was found in an intoxicated state close to the railway track at Castlebar Train Station has been ordered to pay a fine.

Thomas Laurence, 25 Fr Meehan Place, Castlebar, pleaded guilty at the local district court to an offence under Section 4 of the Public Order Act.

Garda Martin Friel told the court that he weas called to Castlebar Railway Station at 4.40pm on the date in question following a report of a man walking near the railway track in an intoxicated state.

“He was staggering around the place and my concern was that he was near the rail tracks and posing a danger to himself and to others,” explained Garda Friel.

The garda said he arrested the defendant and took him to Castlebar Garda Station.

The court was told the defendant has 40 previous convictions, including 13 under this particular section of the Public Order Act.

Judge Vincent Deane convicted Friel and imposed a fine of €150.
