Drunk driver made a ‘stupid decision’

The defendant pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court.
A Kilmeena man has been banned after he drove while over the legal alcohol limit.
Vincent McGlynn, aged 48, of Cross, Kilmeena, Westport pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court to drink driving and dangerous driving.
Insp Elaine Horan told the court that Gardaí were on duty in the Distillery Road area of Westport on May 15, 2022, when they observed a vehicle crossing onto the wrong side of the road.
The driver, McGlynn, was stopped and conveyed to the local Garda Station where a sample of urine was taken. It gave a reading of 242mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine. The legal limit is 67mg.
Solicitor Joan O’Brien said her client previously worked in construction but now helps to run a family farm. He was out with his partner on the night of the incident and made a "stupid decision" to drive home which he now regrets.
Judge Vincent Deane imposed the mandatory three-year driving ban and a fine of €400.
