Castlebar man in court on drugs and motoring charges
The man appeared before Castlebar District Court.
A man has appeared before Castlebar District Court charged with drugs and driving offences arising from two separate incidents.
Jack Devoy, aged 26, of The Residences, Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, faced the charges before Judge Vincent Deane.
Garda Martin Friel told the court that three charges relate to an incident on September 11 last, with a further six arising from an incident on May 15.
The court heard that on September 11, 2026, at The Oaks, Castlebar, Garda Friel arrested Devoy on suspicion of a drugs offence. He later charged and cautioned him, and while putting the charge to him, Devoy replied that the drugs were "for his own use".
Garda Friel said he then charged Devoy with a further offence, to which he made no reply. He told the court Devoy was further charged with offences arising from an incident on May 15 at Pontoon Drive. These charges related to no insurance, failure to produce a driving licence and driving without a licence. He was also charged with using a vehicle at Pontoon Drive on which the excise duty had not been paid.
Gda Sgt Fiona Farrell told the court Devoy had other matters listed for October 7.
Judge Vincent Deane asked whether any of the charges required directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Sgt Farrell said the drugs charge was under Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. Garda Friel said the drugs seized were worth an estimated €300. The DPP directed summary disposal of the case.
Judge Deane accepted jurisdiction and remanded Devoy on bail to October 7, with disclosure to be furnished to his solicitor, Gary Mulchrone.
