Cannabis haul, valued at €1k, was for man's own use 

Castlebar District Court heard that the defendant has several previous convictions. 

A man was found with cannabis resin valued at over €1,000, a court has heard.

Niks Bergmanis, 5 Cemetery Road, Castlebar pleaded guilty at the local district court to possessing cannabis resin for personal use.

Insp David Gibbons told the court that a search warrant was executed at the defendant’s address on December 6, 2021. During the search, €1,005.54 worth of cannabis resin was found. Bergmanis later admitted possessing the drugs for his own use.

Bergmanis has several previous convictions, including two for possessing drugs.

Solicitor Gary Mulchrone said his client works for a scaffolding company and is now living in Longford. Bergmanis had been using cannabis at the time of the offence but is now staying free of drugs and has completed two drug-awareness programmes. Mr Mulchrone presented the court with clear hair follicle tests.

Judge Vincent Deane convicted the defendant and imposed a €500 fine.
