Belmullet cannabis haul was valued at €1,800
The judge adjourned the case for a probation report.
Cannabis with a street value of almost €1,800 was found at the home of a Belmullet woman who had “no previous involvement” with drugs.
Ciara Fitzpatrick, aged 41, of The Moorings, American Street, Belmullet pleaded guilty at the local district court to possessing the drugs.
Gda Insp Dermot Butler told the court that Gardaí carried out a search of the defendant’s residence on May 28, 2024 and found cannabis resin with a street value of €39.34. Fitzpatrick then handed over a bag containing a larger quantity of the drug. Upon further analysis, it was found to be 299.89 grams with a street value of €1,799.37.
Insp Butler said Fitzpatrick was cooperative with the Gardaí. She has no previous convictions.
Solicitor Gary Mulchrone said his client had no previous involvement with drugs and has had no further involvement since this incident. A hair follicle test was negative for all substances.
Adjourning the matter to April 8 next, Judge Sandra Murphy said a probation report was appropriate before sentencing due to the value of the drugs involved.
