Banned for drunk driving

The defendant pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court. 

A man has been put off the road for motoring offences.

Michael Kelly, aged 58, Cloonbook, Brickens, Claremorris pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court to drunk driving and careless driving.

Insp Elaine Horan told the court that Gardaí were on patrol at Churchview, Knock on April 3, 2022, when they observed a Ford Transit being driven on the incorrect side of the road. The driver, Michael Kelly, was stopped and failed a roadside breath test. A subsequent test gave a reading of 54mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 22mg.

Solicitor Patricia Lally said her client was out watching a match and had a few drinks. He decided to take a chance by driving home.

Judge Vincent Deane imposed a two-year driving disqualification and a fine of €200.
