Councillors query future of historic Mayo building

A Castlebar councillor has said he is asked every second day about when Mayo County Council will develop the former Imperial Hotel at The Mall, which has been allowed to fall into a state of dereliction over recent years. 

“People would like to see its redevelopment expedited. It’s a running eyesore in the town”, Cllr Harry Barrett told the October meeting of Mayo County Council. 

Cllr Ger Deere agreed, adding that he did not want to see the Imperial Hotel “turning into another derelict building in the middle of the county town”.
