Councillors back Ballina Autism Friendly Town initiative
Councillors in Ballina have agreed to support the efforts of a local committee to secure Ballina’s status as an Autism Friendly Town.
Cllr Mark Duffy raised a notice of motion at last week’s meeting of the Municipal District calling on the MD to do what they can to support the initiative.
“This would bring in more autism friendly spaces, safe spaces for those with autism to escape the hustle and bustle, especially on days like today (Heritage Day).”
“It would be great to welcome in the committee for a presentation sometime. I want to commend Elisha Beattie and Edel Kenny who are two of the driving forces behind this,” he said.
Cllr John O’Hara supported the motion.
“This is something we should all become more aware of and something we should educate ourselves in a lot more,” he said.
