Councillor calls for old hotel to be painted ahead of Tidy Towns inspection

A Ballinrobe councillor has called for a council-owned property to be painted before the Tidy Towns adjudication takes place in the south Mayo town.

Fine Gael Cllr Michael Burke said he was sad for the Ballinrobe Tidy Towns group that the iconic Gannon’s Hotel on Main Street is currently boarded up.

He called on Mayo County Council to paint the building in order to improve the town’s chances in the upcoming Tidy Towns awards.

The assessment will take place in the next few weeks.

Cllr Burke said it would be a small job, not costing much more than about €1,500.

Head of the Municipal District Padraig Flanagan said he would contact the council's property section directly regarding these works. Mr Flanagan said he hopes the work can be done in the coming weeks.
