Councillor calls for action over outdoor drinking near Mayo school
Cllr Donna Sheridan has raised the issue.
Incidents of illegal drinking and flower theft are frustrating residents in Mayo's county town.
Cllr Donna Sheridan told a meeting of Castlebar Municipal District that Gardaí need to take action on the outdoor drinking that is occurring close to a local school.
She said drinking is taking place near Marsh House. The former council offices is currently used by Educate Together.
The Fine Gael councillor said it is occurring on the benches that line the walkway towards Lough Lannagh. She requested that Gardaí carry out regular sweeps of the area and asked the council to ensure CCTV in the area is functioning.
“We need to make sure this area is monitored,” said Cllr Sheridan.
The councillor also highlighted the theft of flowers from flower pots owned by Brooklands residents in the town.
“It’s terrible to see,” she remarked.
