Council to highlight poor phone coverage
Cllr Damien Ryan raised the issue.
A member of Mayo County Council has called on management to write to the communications regulator, Comreg, to complain about poor mobile phone and broadband service in Mayo.
At the October meeting of the local authority, Ballinrobe-based Cllr Damien Ryan stated: “Mobile and broadband coverage in parts of this county is absolutely disgraceful and people should not have to pay for what is charged. I propose we write to Comreg, as people are not getting the service they are paying for, with the amount of calls being dropped mid-connection. This is just not good enough, especially with all the people working from home and online at college. Either provide a service or not.”
Erris-based Cllr Gerry Coyle said while he can get coverage at his house in Geesala, if "I drive to all the villages [in Erris] there is no coverage".
Cllr Patsy O’Brien seconded the proposal that management write to Comreg and this was agreed by members.
