Cold snap to continue as weather warning extended
The Status Yellow Snow/Ice warning issued by Met Eireann for Mayo has been extended to 9am tomorrow, Tuesday, January 6th.
Wintery showers with some snow accumulations, sharp or severe frost or ice maybe possible along with hazardous travel conditions and poor visibility.
In their Connacht forecast for today, Met Eireann said that frost and icy stretches on untreated surfaces will be slow to clear with patches of freezing fog and some lying snow in places too. They said it will be dry and sunny for most, with wintry showers becoming more isolated. Highest temperatures of only 1 to 6 degrees in light to moderate northwest to west winds.
Mayo County Council have advised that their gritting teams will be out this morning (January 5th).
Motorists are asked to please exercise extreme caution while making journeys.
