Coca-Cola seeks permission for works at Ballina facility
Coca-Cola is seeking planning permission for the expansion of facilities at its Mayo plant,
A planning application has been lodged with Mayo County Council by the European Refreshments Unlimited Company (Coca-Cola).
The proposals include new staff facilities and an expansion of the staff care park at the Ballina base. The new staff facility will include upgraded changing rooms and welfare areas on the ground floor, with a new restaurant, kitchen and associated accommodation on the first floor.
A corridor will link the extension to an existing building on site from the first floor, and a temporary single-storey structure will be removed as part of the works. The overall development will cover approximately 1.18 hectares.
A total of 51 new parking spaces are planned, including six equipped with electric vehicle charging points and a further 12 are ducted for future chargers.
In addition, four existing spaces will be reconfigured to create three designated disabled parking bays. Secure bicycle parking and improved drop-off and loading areas will also be incorporated.
The company says the redesigned layout is intended to meet current operational needs while providing room for future expansion.
A decision on the project is expected by January 6 next year.
The Ballina plant boasts a workforce of more than 500 and is one of the biggest employers in the county. In 2023, Coca-Cola’s operation in Ballina was named as one of the world’s most advanced manufacturers by the World Economic Forum.
The Mayo facility manufactures concentrates and beverage bases for Coca-Cola bottling companies across the globe.
