The Ballina Municipal District is to arrange a civic reception for the Crossmolina Deel Rovers team that won the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship last month.

Cllr Michael Loftus called for the club to be honoured by the Municipal District in recognition of its success.

Crossmolina beat Ballinderry from Co Derry to win the intermediate title at Croke Park in January with Conor Loftus’s late penalty taking the Mayo side over the line in the final minute.

“It was a great achievement and they are the only club to have won both senior and intermediate All-Ireland titles,” said Cllr Loftus.

Head of the district Declan Turnbull said they would make the arrangements for a civic reception for the team in the coming weeks.

“I just want to remind Cllr Loftus that Moy Davitts were the only team to beat Crossmolina in the championship campaign,” joked the Foxford native.
