Child dies in Mayo road traffic accident
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and pedestrian in North Mayo earlier today (Sunday).
At approximately 11.20am, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted after a pedestrian was struck by a car on the N59 at Eskeragh, Crossmolina.
The pedestrian, a male child, was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The body of the deceased has been conveyed to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital.
A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
The local coroner has been notified.
The scene is preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
Road users and pedestrians with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 10.40am and 11.40am on Sunday, June 21st, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
