Call for road safety works in Westport

Call for road safety works in Westport

Cllr Peter Flynn

A Westport councillor has called for safety schemes to be introduced at both the Quay Road/Leenane Road junction and the Ardmore Road junction on the outskirts of the town.

Fine Gael councillor Peter Flynn told the December meeting of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District that the works were badly needed in these areas.

“The Quay Road is a very busy road with a huge amount of pedestrians there on a daily basis. During the summer it is chaos with traffic blocked up to the Leenane Road. We need something to make it more efficient.

Cllr Flynn added that safety works are also needed at the Ardmore Road junction on the Coast Road, telling Mayo County Council management that the owner of property there was kindly willing to give some of their front garden to help remove the “lethal bend”.

Management agreed to discuss the matter further with Cllr Flynn after the meeting.
