Burst water main causing problems for Mayo town

Uisce Éireann crews are responding this morning to a significant burst overnight affecting the Kiltimagh Public Water Supply. Customers in the following areas may be impacted: Kiltimagh Town, Park Road, Treanagleragh and Carrareagh.

Works are estimated to be completed this evening; however, repair works are being impeded by severe frost and low temperatures overnight. In order to prioritise the safety of the repair crew, road users, and the general public works cannot take place until it is safe to do so.

Colette Scahill, Water Operations Manager, has assured affected customers that every effort is being made to restore water supply, as quickly as possible and that repair works will be carried out once it is safe to do so.

“This is a complex burst on a water main that may be resulting in water outages for some customers in the area. We understand how disruptive unplanned outages are. We also need to prioritise the safety of our crew and road users. The low temperatures experienced overnight may cause some delays to the completion of the repair works.”

Typically, it takes three to four hours following repairs for normal supply to be restored to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. To register as a vulnerable customer or as an alternative contact, visit our Vulnerable Customers page.
