Body of man (70s) found on Enniscrone Beach
The search for a missing person in Enniscrone was stood down following the discovery of a body at Enniscrone Beach yesterday evening.
The body of a man, aged in his 70s, was removed from the scene to the mortuary at Sligo University Hospital, where a postmortem will take place in due course.
Gardaí have said they are investigating all the circumstances in relation to the incident. Foul play is not a factor at this time.
A Garda spokesperson said the results of the postmortem will determine the course of the investigation and a file will be prepared for the local Coroner.
The man was reported missing yesterday and a search operation involving the emergency services took place.
Local Cllr Joe Queenan said there is great sadness and shock among people in the local area and he thanked everyone who assisted in a search operation.
“I want to pay tribute to all the volunteers who came out to assist with the search for many hours. It was a bad night last night but when this became apparent, the amount of people who came out to help was amazing. I also want to extend my thanks to the Gardaí, the Fire Service and all emergency services personnel who assisted,” he said.
