'€1m to get council house into use' in Mayo

Cllr Peter Flynn raised the matter.
The chairperson of Mayo Co Council's housing strategic policy committee, Cllr Peter Flynn, has claimed that over €1 million in taxpayers’ money will be spent before a house near Westport that had been compulsorily acquired by the council is brought back into use.
During a discussion on the number of compulsorily acquired houses still out of use along the new N5 near Westport, Cllr Flynn said there was one that had been sold for €600,00 and "will cost over €400,000 to refurbish".
"Over €1 million of tax-payers’ money will go into it. It was valued at €600,000 back in 2015 so instead of being worth a lot more, it is now worth significantly less. It’s a four-bedroom house and we are going to pay a million for it. It’s scandalous.”
