Michael Horan announced as Oscar Traynor manager
Michael Horan has been annaounced as the new Oscar Traynor manager for Mayo.
The Mayo Football League are delighted to have secured the services of Michael Horan in the role of Oscar Traynor Manager for the upcoming campaign.
Chairman Gerry Sweeney stated that , “Michael is a very experienced and a well respected manager throughout the County and I would like to wish him and his backroom team the very best “.
He went on to say “ I would also like to encourage all clubs to fully support the efforts of the Management team in getting the best players in the League to represent the County in the tournament “.
"I am honoured to have been invited to manage the Mayo Oscar Traynor squad for this year’s competition.
"The management team will include Paul Byrne (coach) and Dave Cameron (Physio), with others to confirm shortly. We are looking forward to working with the players from the various clubs in the county - we certainly have a lot of quality players to work with.
"It is a knockout competition this year, so the focus will be on the home game against Galway at the end of October.
"I am very conscious that there is an exciting conclusion to this year’s Superleague, the Super Cup final, and the Connaught Cup competition will be kicking off over the coming weeks, so I will be respectful of the players' and clubs' workload and commitment to those competitions.
"We will circulate an invitation to the clubs in the coming days for players to join an extended panel. The initial gatherings will be team meetings to get the players acquainted and set out our plan for the competition.
"The load will be very light initially and will gather momentum as we approach the Galway game……. again, to work with the clubs and their earned commitments."
