Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle returns in May

One of Ireland’s top charity cycling events, the Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle, returns on Saturday, May 2nd, starting and finishing at the ATU Castlebar Campus. Now in its 17th year, the event continues to attract cyclists of all abilities for a memorable day of community spirit, scenic routes, and meaningful fundraising.

Organised by the Mayo Pink Ribbon Committee, the cycle has become a standout highlight in the West of Ireland’s sporting and charity calendar. Participants can choose from three route options, 52km, 70km, and 110km, making it accessible to both leisure cyclists and experienced riders alike.

More than 2,000 cyclists have taken part since its inception, raising over €1.7 million in support of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI), based at the Lambe Institute, University of Galway. Funds raised contribute directly to vital research aimed at improving outcomes for those diagnosed with breast cancer.

While registration is free, participants are encouraged to raise or donate a minimum of €100 (€60 for juniors), reinforcing the event’s core mission as a community-driven fundraiser.

The Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle is widely recognised for its vibrant atmosphere, with communities across the region coming together in a sea of pink to show their support. Local businesses, schools, and volunteers play a key role in creating a welcoming and uplifting experience for all involved.

Pre-registered participants will receive a complimentary Mayo Pink Ribbon T-shirt (subject to availability) and a commemorative medal upon completion. The event will also be fully supported along all routes, with refreshments provided and a hot meal served after the cycle.
