Mayo native set for huge boxing clash

Belmullet native Rachel Lally is set to face UAE National Champion Ganat Sayed in Dubai today (Saturday) at 3pm Irish time.

This is Rachel’s third professional bout and should the 30-year-old win the fight, she will break into the top five of the female super middleweight rankings less than a year after combining professional boxing with her career as a teacher in the United Arab Emirates.

Rachel, who is based in Dubai, tuck up boxing in 2012 after being inspired Katie Taylor and trained with the Golden Gloves Boxing club in Belmullet under the watchful eye of Martin McIntyre, John Gibbons and all the club volunteers.

Rachel’s talents were clear when at the age of 17. she won a national under-18 title, before boxing took a back seat due to college and work commitments.

After moving to Dubai in 2021, she joined a local boxing gym and her passion for the sport was reignited. She turned professional last year after a few amateur fights and Rachel’s professional journey has been supported by many sponsors from Dubai and her native Erris.

Her main sponsors are construction firms, Capatal Sky Limited and Rinrow, both companies with strong Erris roots.

Rachel faces her toughest challenge to date with the whole of Erris and the many coats in Dubai behind her. The fight can be viewed on YouTube.
