Mayo grappling competitor Dylan Rice has secured silver and bronze medals in the European Jiu-jitsu Championships in Rome in recent days.

The Ballina man had success earlier this year in the Irish national Jiu-jitsu competition, and following that, he advanced to compete against athletes from around the world at the annual international tournament.

He won three out of five matches, which were all held on the same day, 29th October last, at PalaPellicone sports hall in Lido di Ostia, Rome.

Dylan's most recent achievements come exactly five years after he first competed in a jujitsu competition.

While the results achieved are a major improvement from his last outing in Rome two years ago, when he exited the tournament in the first round, Dylan was disappointed, having set his sights on winning gold this year.

However, he is not deterred by missing out on the top prize in this year's competition and has vowed to return to the Euros next year with even greater experience and enthusiasm.

Dylan was supported at the event by some of his family who travelled to Italy for the occasion.
