Mayo athlete secures European bronze medal

Oisin Joyce.
Ballinrobe native Oisin Joyce secured a bronze medal representing Ireland at the Under-23 javelin event at the European Throwing Cup in Cyprus over the weekend.
Joyce, as part of a five-athlete strong team representing his country, threw 73.86 metres placing him third on the podium.
The javelin thrower’s sporting career goes from strength to strength after he set a new Irish record throw at U20 level in Germany last year and followed that up with a bronze medal at the World Athletics U20 tournament in Peru.
Joyce was also named Sports Personality of the Year at the Western People Sports Stars Awards last month.
