A man who was assaulted in Dublin on Monday has died in hospital.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident which occurred on North Great Charles Street.

A spokesperson said a man aged in his 40s who had sustained serious injuries in the assault died on Friday at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital.

The spokesperson said: “The office of the coroner and the state pathologist have been notified.

“A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.”

A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area between 10pm and 10.30pm, or who may have witnessed the incident, to contact them.

They have appealed to delivery or taxi drivers operating in the area at the time, who may have noticed any suspicious activity, to make contact.
