Gardaí are investigating after a man suffered serious head and facial injuries in an alleged assault in Limerick on Thursday.

Gardaí suspect the injured man was struck several times about the head with a wheel brace or an iron bar.

The alleged attack occurred at a house in the Southill area of Limerick City around 3 pm on Thursday.

The motive for the alleged assault was unclear. However, gardaí suspect it is linked to a personal dispute between two males.

Detectives were hoping to interview the injured man, who was being treated at University Hospital Limerick.

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene following report of an alleged incident of assault at a residence in Southill, Limerick, that occurred at approximately 3pm, Thursday 16th March,” said a Garda spokeswoman.

“A male (aged in his 20’s) was conveyed to hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.”

“A technical examination of the scene was carried out and investigations are ongoing,” said the Garda spokeswoman.
