The Department of Integration has officially confirmed that 47 modular housing units proposed for a Ballaghaderreen site to cater for over 200 people “will not proceed”.

A Ballaghaderreen member of the welcoming committee for asylum seekers has called on the Government to provide more facilities for rural Ireland and stressed people fleeing war should be welcomed.

Mayo councillors have rejected a report on the refugee situation in the county. The report was commissioned by Mayo County Council following a request by councillors.

Gardaí were called to the refugee centre at Ballinafad House
