Cork University Hospital (CUH) is escalating its response to a major norovirus outbreak

As of Thursday evening, visiting is permitted only on compassionate grounds.

The winter vomiting bug is one of the most common stomach bugs in Ireland.

100 cases of norovirus were recorded on the week ending March 16 (week 11) which represented the highest weekly total so far in 2025.

Several wards are impacted and due to increased infection control measures required hospital management has suspended visiting with immediate effect
