Logboy pride for Jack Coyne

Bernie Connell, Deputy Principal of Logboy National School, Ballyhaunis, is thrilled for her former pupil, Jack Coyne, who captained Mayo to a first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship since 1951.
“We are all so proud of Jack and all the Coyne family. Jack was a great student, always so grounded and hardworking. At the time Jack attended the school we didn't even have a pitch, but that didn’t stop the children playing football and taking part in various GAA school competitions.
“They were always very supportive of our school and indeed Nanny Coyne (RIP) attended every gathering possible.
“The Coyne and Toolan families attended Logboy NS and were an integral part of the local community. We were delighted to welcome Jack back a few years ago to speak to the pupils and we can’t wait to see him back again with Sam. What a wonderful honour it will be for our school and all the community.” Karen Ronane, principal of the school, which has since added a football pitch, said: “We have followed Jack’s journey with immense pride over the years, and to see one of our own lead his county to such a historic achievement is truly inspirational. Jack’s dedication, humility and leadership are wonderful qualities for our pupils to look up to. We are incredibly proud of Jack and the entire Mayo team, and we congratulate them on this unforgettable achievement.”
