The death took place last week of well-known local publican Mr Michael (Mickey) O'Boyle, The Halfway House, Ardagh. Mickey was predeceased by his beloved wife Maura, and brothers Paddy and Johnny. Mickey possessed a warm and endearing personality and was very knowledgeable on all local and current affairs. He had a deep passion for all farming matters and local and national sports which he followed very closely. A witty raconteur Mickey would often regale his customers with countless stories of bygone days and of times during his working life in a humorous and amusing way. He was extremely generous with his time and often imparted prudent guidance to young people starting off in their careers.
Throughout his life Mickey and his late wife Maura hosted numerous sporting and family occasions at their premises where they extended their warm hospitality and support to all who attended the events. He is survived by son Michael, daughter Shauna, daughter-in-law Marie, son-in-law Martin, grandchildren Michael, Catherine, Joseph and John, nephews, nieces, relatives, loyal customers and a wide circle of friends. Mickey was held in very esteem throughout the community and beyond and this was reflected in the huge attendance at his obsequies in Hiney's Funeral Home, Crossmolina, and at Requiem Mass in the Church of the Assumption, Ardagh, which was followed by burial in Ardagh cemetery last Thursday. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
