The late John Noel Gallagher

The death took place recently of John Noel Gallagher, R.I.P, Crathloe, Co Clare and late of Stonepark, Ballyglass, Claremorris, County Mayo. The deceased was a brother of Thomas Gallagher, Stonepark and he is fondly remembered by neighbours in his home community. His sudden passing is an occasion of deep sorrow for his loving family and many friends in Mayo and Clare who held him in the highest esteem. Predeceased by his parents Tom and Mary Gallagher and father-in-law John Kelleher, he is deeply regretted by his wife Ethna and his children Karen and Mark, his mother-in-law Josephine Kelleher, brothers Malachy, Thomas and James, sisters-in-law Mary Nolan, Teresa Lynch, Ann Grace and their husbands Brian, Eddie and Michael, brother-in-law Sean Kelleher and his wife Tina, sisters-in-law Julie and Laura Gallagher, nieces and nephews, the extended Gallagher and Kelleher families, and many great neighbours and friends to whom sincere sympathy is tendered. His remains reposed at his residence 7 Aisling Court, Cratloe on Saturday, December 30, from 4 to 6pm and it arrived for the funeral Mass in St. John's Church, Cratloe, on the Sunday at 11.30am followed by burial afterwards ceremonies in Craughran Cemetery.

Michelle on Masters Team

The squad for the first ever Ireland Masters Ladies International Rules team was recently announced. This team will make history by facing the AFL Masters on the weekends of March 9 and 16 this year. Former Mayo and Carnacon footballer star Michelle McGing has been selected on the team that will be managed by the former Mayo ladies manager and Crossmolina and Mayo footballer Michael Moyles. Best wishes to the team and management for their preparations and the unique encounter itself.

€1,000 a week draw

Ballintubber GAA Club is offering a lucky winner the chance to earn €1,000 a week for a year in their recent ‘Win €52K’ fundraiser. The attractive fundraiser will see the lucky winner claim a cash prize of €52,000 paid out at €1,000 per week into their account. The club intends to use the proceeds raised to install flood lighting at Ray Prendergast Memorial Park in Clogher and for the development of their underage structures. Ballintubber Steps Challenge

January is here and with that comes the GAA's Ireland Lights Up Steps Challenge. The challenge kicks off this week and would-be participants need to download the app and register for the challenge. Last year Ballintubber finished in the top 5 in Connacht, aim to be number one this year. Thursday January 11, is the first walk along with Sunday mornings so pencil that in the diary and spread the word.

Ballintubber is registered under 'Ballintubber GAA Club Mayo'. Anyone who is having issues registering can contact the club Health and Wellbeing officer Deirdre Donnelly.

Beginners Yoga

‘The Troubled Times’

‘The Troubled Times in Ballyglass, Claremorris during Ireland’s War of Independence 1918 – 1923’ is the title of a new book recently launched in the County Library, Castlebar. Dedicated to memory of the late Paddy Joe Murphy, a true community stalwart, the book contains the recollections of ‘C’ Company Ballyglass Old IRA veterans and activists recorded between 1965 and 1975. The book also features the recollections of the late Dr John Langan of life in the greater community. Dr Langan was a hugely respected and legendary figure around the region and also a noted historian and a person who had a great love of his native place and the local people. The book is available in local book shops and retail outlets. It is highly recommended as a valuable source of local history from a bygone era.

The 36th annual edition of Waterfall magazine is flying off the shelves. This is a high quality and brilliantly produced magazine covering in depth the communities of Tuar Mhic Eadaigh and Partry in 2023. There is a host of interesting articles including “Neart le Ceile” on that superb athlete Bridget Walsh, An Garda Siochána 1923 – 2023, Partry Athletic FC, CLG Tuar Mhic Eadaigh, Coláiste Muire, Cures from a Connacht Manuscript, the Geopark Project, the Lough Carra Life Project, The Partraige Way and the Civil War in Ballyovey.

There are also numerous magnificent photographs that truly capture the essence of community life. Tourmakeady Pastoral Council has extended thanks to everyone who purchased Christmas Church Mass Cards. A total of €1,190 was achieved for the church decorative fund. Thanks have been extended to Veronica and Michael Heneghan, Srah, who designed the cards and to Fr Jarlath who celebrated the Tridum of Masses in both churches. Eucharistic Adoration takes place in Partry Church on Mondays from 6 to 8pm. Adoration in Tourmakeady Church is on each Wednesday evening at 7pm concluding with Mass at 7.30pm. All are most welcome.

Breaffy Ballyheane Belcarra

The late Pat Quigley 

The death has taken place of Pat Quigley, R.I.P, 'Anfield', Spencer Park and late of Ballyheane, Castlebar. Pat passed away peacefully after a short illness in Bon Secours Hospital, Galway, on the December 31, 2023. The officers, members, players and supporters of Ballyheane FC were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the clubs dear friend, great supporter and former President of the FAI - Pat Quigley. As a mark of respect for Ballyheane FC formed a Guard of Honour as Pat was a true Ballyheane man ‘born and bred’ and instrumental is the establishment of Ballyheane FC in 1985. He was always there for advice or guidance, attending many awards and presentations over the years.

The success of the Club over the last few years was of enormous pride to Pat, he attended many matches in Ballyheane in the grounds that bore his name - Pat Quigley Park which will ensure his memory lives on. Pat also had a long association with football in Mayo and nationally and he was a former President of the FAI from 1996 to 2000, former Chairman of the Mayo League and current Vice Chairman of the Mayo Schoolboys/Girls and Youth League.

Pat was a giant of Mayo football for over half a century and his loss to the Mayo soccer community will be sorely felt.

Predeceased by his wife Eleanor (29th April, 2023) and his parents Paddy and Norah he is deeply regretted by his loving family, daughter Patricia and her partner Charlie, son Shane and his wife Jess, grandchildren Aaron, Joshua and Tara, sister-in-law Nan Clarke (Ballina), relatives, neighbours and friends to whom sincere condolences is extended. Pat remained reposed at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Wednesday, January 3, with removal at 7pm to his home. The removal of his remains from his residence took place on Thursday morning at 10.30am for Requiem Mass at 11.30am in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar. Funeral ceremonies took place afterwards in Ballyheane Cemetery. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

The late Bridie Keaney

The death has occurred of Bridie Keaney, R.I.P, (nee Hopkins) Roslahan, Manulla, Castlebar, Co Mayo and formerly of Burren. In her 96th year Bridie passed away in the loving care of the nurses and staff at the Claremount Nursing Home, Claremorris. Predeceased by her husband Willie, she is deeply regretted by her loving sons Tom and John, daughters Margie (Nally) and Mary (Walsh), daughter-in -law (Katie), son-in-law (Stephen), grandchildren Stevie, Vicki, Charlene, Natasha, Chanelle and Johnathan, great grandchildren, Noah and Jamie, relatives and friends to whom deep sympathy is tendered. Her remains reposed at Belcarra Community Centre on last Thursday evening, January 4, from 5.30 until 7pm with removal afterwards to St. Anne's Church Belcarra. Her funeral Mass took place on Friday morning at 11am followed by burial in Balla Cemetery. May she rest eternally in the peace and happiness of heaven.
