Local Notes: Thrilling victory for Claremorris U14 girls

Claremorris U14 girls produced a superb second-half comeback to claim the Division 2 Shield title recently.

Success for U14 girls

Claremorris U14 girls produced a superb second-half comeback to claim the Division 2 Shield title on June 4th, overturning a 13-point half-time deficit to defeat Shrule/Glencorrib by two points in an exciting final in Bekan.

Trailing by 13 points at the interval, Claremorris faced a significant challenge but responded in outstanding fashion after the break. With the benefit of a strong wind at their backs, the girls delivered a determined and spirited performance, gradually reducing the deficit before pushing ahead in the closing stages.

A disciplined and hardworking defensive display laid the foundations for the turnaround, while the forwards made full use of their opportunities, finding scores at crucial moments and hitting the net when it mattered most.

The victory capped a memorable league campaign for the team and was celebrated by players, management and supporters alike.

Claremorris also paid tribute to Shrule/Glencorrib, who played their part in a highly entertaining contest and produced an excellent performance throughout.

Special congratulations were extended to Player of the Match Mollie Noone for her outstanding contribution, while team captain Teegan Fallon proudly accepted the Division 2 Shield on behalf of her teammates following the final whistle.

The team also thanked the large number of supporters who travelled to Bekan to cheer them on, helping to create a fantastic atmosphere on the day.

The dramatic victory provided a fitting finish to the league season and was a deserved reward for the hard work, commitment and determination shown by the players and management throughout the campaign.
