Local Notes: Templemary NS pupils star at ChessZ All-Ireland competition

The ChessZ All-Ireland Primary Schools Competition was held on May 26th in Nenagh, Co Tipperary. It consisted of two competitions - the 'Girls Only' Competition and the 'Champions Competition' (mixed). Four teams competed from Templemary NS. The Templemary Girls Team came third in their competition and one of the mixed teams came joint third (a three-way tie) in the 'Champions Competition'. George Munnelly also got the second highest individual score on the day, winning five out of six games. Well done to all.

Ballycastle
The death occurred on June 9th of Stephanie Jackson (nèe Gilroy), Carrowcubic, Ballycastle.
Predeceased by her husband David and her siblings Sarah, Mary, Peggy, Trena, Pat, Sèan and Paddy, she is survived by her sister Nancy, nieces and nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Ardagh
Ardagh Social Services are organising their annual day trip to the Fr Peyton Centre, Attymass, on Tuesday, June 30. Bus departs Ardagh Community Centre at 10.30am. Enjoy a cup of tea on arrival, Mass at 12.15pm followed by a two-course lunch at 1pm including tea/coffee.
After lunch there will be music until 3.30 to 4pm. Bus departs approximately 4pm to return to Ardagh Community Centre. Cost is €20 per person (part of the cost is subsidised). To book your place, please contact Breege (087-2591862) or Lena (087-2584333).
There were mixed results for both Ardagh teams who played in their respective divisions of the AbbVie senior football leagues last week.
Ardagh B had a well deserved 2-13 to 2-11 victory over Bonniconlon B while Ardagh lost comprehensively to Westport on a scoreline of 4-19 to 0-11. Ardagh had to field without six of their younger players who are currently studying for their Leaving Certificate examination.
Meanwhile Ardmoy underage teams are acquitting themselves quite well in their underage competitions.
A special Mass for pioneers and friends of the PTAA will take place this coming Friday evening, June 19, in Ardagh church. Those wishing to receive their full pioneer pins - 10 years, 25 years silver pins, 50 years Golden pins or 60 years Diamond pins - may contact Maeve Tierney, Crossmolina, or Una Birrane, Moygownagh.
Pupils from Ardagh and Knockanillo national schools held their annual joint sports day last week which, by all accounts, was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants. Special words of gratitude to Farnan, Orla, David and all the volunteers who helped to make it a very enjoyable and memorable occasion.
Bingo continues on Saturday evenings in the community centre at 8pm while 25 card drives take place each Sunday evening at 9pm upstairs in the centre.

Moygownagh walking group will meet on Wednesday at 8pm, starting from the Community Centre. Please wear high-vis clothing. All members of the community are welcome to come to both events.
'Our Interconnectedness, Our Shared Humanity', is a talk by Paula Naughton that will be hosted by the Connect Café with support from HSC Lottery Funding on Thursday, June 18, in Moygownagh Learning Forum at 7.30pm.
Come along for an inspiring evening of reflection, connection and conversation on the importance of community and our shared humanity.
Chair Yoga take place on Thursday at 1pm in the Learning Forum.
A First Aid and CPR training course will take place on Saturday, June 27, in association with the Moygownagh ICA Guild in Moygownagh Community Centre. Members of the community are welcome to attend. Cost of course is €75. Booking essential as places are limited. Phone Laura on 085-1519208.

Crossmolina
There was no winner of Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto jackpot on Saturday night, June 6, when the numbers drawn were 2, 11, 24 and 29.
Kevin Connor, Erris Rd, Crossmolina matched three numbers and won €150. The draw took place in Hiney’s Bar. This week’s jackpot is €6,300 and many thanks for your continued support.

Bonniconlon
We welcome into God’s family Jack Francis Conroy who was baptised in Bonniconlon Church recently.
There was no winner of the jackpot of €15,000 in the Bonniconlon GAA Lotto when the draw was held on June 6 last. The numbers drawn were 13, 22, 30, 32.
The five winners of €40 each were Michael Ginley, Bonniconlon; Pauline Langan, Ballina; Joe Howley, Bonniconlon; Tracey and Seamus Glacken, Bonniconlon; Carol Banks, Bonniconlon.
The new jackpot is €15,650.
