Thanks to everyone who supported Run for Hope in memory of Hope Rose Caulfield. The total amount raised was €2945 with all donations going to Children's Health Foundation Crumlin, in support of Cathal Kelly’s Walk2Rome in loving memory of Cathals sister's Alice and Sarah Kelly. The cheque presentation took place at the final event of Swinford AC’s Spring Series held in Foxford. Pictured are members of the Caulfield family, representatives of Swinford AC and Cathal Kelly.

‘A Grey Wing Upon Every Tide’

Síamsa Sráide Street Festival Swinford presents 'A Grey Wing Upon Every Tide' by Colin Carberry on Friday, August 1, at 2pm in Boland's Bar where poet, editor and reviewer Colin Carberry of Toronto will give a talk covering many topics from the Irish diaspora to Irish history.  Colin will reminiscence on his own family and Republican activity during the War of Independence in Longford as well as colourful historical Irish figures in Mexico. Colin will also launch his new poetry book 'Ghost Homeland'.

Youth Memorial Garden

On Saturday, May 24, at 11am the Youth Memorial Garden Team will be getting the garden summer ready. Anyone who wishes to help are very welcome to come along.  You may be someone with a gift for planting flowers or be happy pulling weeds, all help will be very much appreciated. A Mass at the garden is planned and the date and time will be published when finalised. A Prayer Service will be held at the garden on Friday, May 30, at 7pm, and all are very welcome to attend.

Petanque Club

Swinford Petanque Club meet every Thursday from 1 to 3pm at the Amenity Park for games of Petanque/Boules. Why not join for low impact exercise, fun, throwing, walking and bending. If interested contact Bernadette 087 3134461 or Ann 087 7459089.

KCC April 50/50 draw

Congratulations to Damien Tansey who won €555 in the Killasser Community Centre April 50/50 draw with Breege McDonnell and John and Geraldine Burke winning €20 spot prize each. The next draw takes place on Sunday, June 1.

Golden Jubilee celebrations

To mark the Golden Jubilee of the ordination of Fr Padraig Costello to the priesthood, the members of Foxford parish are organising a Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, June 1, in St. Michael’s Church, Foxford at 6pm followed by refreshments in Foxford Sports and Leisure Centre.

Outdoor Mass

Mass will be celebrated outside Callow Church on June 1, at 10am, weather permitting.

Thank You

Swinford Agricultural Show Committee thank all who supported their very successful bake sale recently. The committee would especially like to thank all the wonderful bakers and to everyone who supported the recent church gate collections also. This helps greatly with the running of the show which is taking place on Sunday, August 24.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on May 12, were 2, 7, 14 and 19. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by Rachel Hunt, c/o Lavins; and Annie O'Hara, Logcurragh; €35 was won by Nellie Jennings, c/o Tara Café. The jackpot is now €4,200.

Time to Shine

Gardening Club

John Brennan will give a talk on planting summer hanging baskets, tubs and window boxes this evening, Tuesday, May 20, in the Meeting Room on Lower Main St at 8pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. John will be happy to answer questions afterwards. The cost for non-members is €5. Why not take this opportunity to come along and join the club.

Killasser Community Care Group

This year has been designated Jubilee 2025 Pilgrims of Hope, and pilgrims are invited to go on pilgrimage to three national sanctuaries Croagh Patrick, Lough Derg and Knock Shrine. A Pilgrim Passport is available and when you visit the above places you get your passport stamped. Passports are available from Knock Shrine Office or visit www.pilgrimagepassport.ie for details. Killasser Community Care group are organising one day retreats to visit each of these places. Knock Shrine on May 20, Croagh Patrick on July 29 and Lough Derg on September 9. The annual day trip to the Fr Peyton Centre will take place on July 15, and plans are in place to visit Ballintubber Abbey in August. Junior Golf

Summer Camp

Bohola Summer Camp will be held from July 28 to August 1, in Bohola Community Centre, from 10am - 2pm daily. It is suitable for children aged 3 -12, and the cost is 1 child €80, 2 siblings €140. This music, song and dance themed camp will have a performance on Friday. There will also be multi activities such as art, treasure hunt, obstacle course and more. Golden Jubilee

Fr Padraig Costello, parish priest of Foxford parish, is celebrating his 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood this year. Fr. Padraig spent many years in the parish of Bohola. To mark this special milestone, Foxford Parish Pastoral Council and organising committee invite everyone to his Golden Jubilee celebration Mass on Sunday, June 1, in St. Michaels Church Foxford and reception afterwards in the Sports and Leisure Centre, Foxford. Recent death

The death occurred of Martha O’Boyle (née Kenny), Larganboy, Ballyhaunis, who died on Saturday, May 10. Her funeral Mass took place in Bekan on Tuesday, May 13, with burial afterwards in Ballyhaunis cemetery. She was the sister of Tommy Joe Kenny, Shraheens. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved.

Active Age Thursday Club

The Active Age Thursday Club takes place on Thursday’s from 11.30am to 2.30pm in Kilmovee Community Centre. It is open to people aged 55 and upwards. A light lunch is served, light exercise and bingo, a friendly chat and make new friends along the way. There is a €10 weekly admission and €12 annual membership fee. You do not need to be from the area to attend.

Lough Derg Day pilgrimage

Kilmovee Parish will organise a day pilgrimage to Lough Derg (10am – 4pm on the Island) on Monday, May 26. The cost for the day is €50 which includes the island entrance fee. Call Fr Joseph on 086 160 5373 for more details.

Kilmovee Swimming Pool

Kilmovee Swimming Pool are recruiting for the dual position of pool lifeguard/ pool assistant. The period of employment is to be confirmed but approximate dates are from June 21 to August 29. All relevant certificates must be readily available on request. All successful applicants must be Garda vetted and complete the relevant child protection courses, before commencing employment. The late Michael (Mick) Towey

The death took place of Michael Towey, Kilaturley, Swinford and Ballaghaderreen, peacefully surrounded by his family in the Mayo Hospice on May 12. Michael was predeceased by his loving wife Christina (nee Gallagher), parents Andrew and Mary, brothers Gerard and Pat, sisters-in-law Madeline, Kathleen and Tess, and brother-in-law Kevin Gallagher.

Mick will be sadly missed by his sons Gerard (Killaturley), Kevin (Carnacon), Alan (Bandon, Co. Cork), and Brendan (Australia), daughters Caroline (Kiltimagh) and Sharon (Bohola), daughters-in-law Amanda, Niamh and Joanne, and Caroline’s partner Ricky, adored grandchildren Clodagh, Ruby, Lola, Éabha, Eimear, Lauren, Andrew and Eoin, brothers John, Tom (Phil), Eddie (Mary), aunt Ann McCormack, nieces, nephews, family circle, neighbours, friends and loving partner Mary (UK).

Michael reposed in Campbell's Funeral Home, Swinford, on Wednesday, May 14, and his funeral Mass took place at 12 noon on Thursday, May 15, in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford, prior to interment in Bushfield Cemetery. Deepest sympathy is offered to all who mourn the passing of Michael. May he rest in peace.

The late John Bryan Baverstock

The death took place of John Bryan Baverstock, Creevy, Lisacul, Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, on May 10 peacefully in Mayo University Hospital. John was predeceased by his brother, David and is deeply mourned by his wife Mary, daughters Laura and Jacqui, son Jeremy, grandchildren Dylan, Ella and Patrick, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

John reposed in The Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen on Wednesday, May 14, followed by removal at 7pm to Christ the King Church, Lisacul, arriving at 7.30pm. Mass of the Resurrection was held on Thursday at 11am, followed by interment in Lisacul cemetery. May John rest in peace as deepest sympathy is offered to all who are bereaved by his passing.
