Social Services

Ardagh Social Services are hosting a ‘Day Out’ in Ardagh Community Centre tomorrow, Wednesday, April 15, from 12 noon to 4.30pm. The day will begin with Mass in the centre at 12pm, followed by lunch and then an afternoon of traditional music with Jimmy O’Donnell and guests. At 3.30pm the Ramblers Drama Group will perform a one-act 45-minute comedy, ‘A Night to Remember’, by Jimmy Keary. The cost is €10 per person (cost subsidised from the proceeds of Social Dancing). Set Dancing

Craft evening

Thank you is extended to Helena Golden, Willow Woman for delivering a willow basket tutorial on Monday last. The gathering was immersed if only for a short time, in the tradition of basketry which stretches back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages, according to finds made through peatland archaeological surveying in Ireland. Each of the Connect Café Rambling House Group returned home with a new skill and a new basket each after an enjoyable afternoon of hard work.

Duck Race

Carn NS are holding a duck race on Monday, May 4. The cost is €10 per duck and your support will be appreciated.

Congratulations to Moygownagh who won the North Mayo Junior B Exclusive final in a 0-14 to 0-09 win against Killala. Well done to all the lads and management.

Women’s Group ICA meeting

A meeting for anybody interested in joining the Moygownagh ICA will take place on Wednesday, April 15, at 8pm in the Learning Forum. A large crowd attended the 25 Drive in Moygownagh Community Centre on Friday night with 1st prize going to Paddy Kneafsey and Peter Sheridan, 2nd Eamonn Moran and Mickey McDermott, Sarah Grealis and Ann Farry, Johnny Ruane and Yvonne Durcan, 3rd to Tom Kilgannon and Joe Murphy, Other winners were; Tommy Joe Gilroy, Mary Reape, Breege Reilly, Una Caret, Lauren O’Boyle and Shauna Reilly. Mindfulness and Reflection event

Local Hakomi Psychotherapist, Rachel Sweetman welcomed members of the Lacken Parish community and beyond to a peaceful gathering of mindfulness and reflection recently. The event, held in the intimate and supportive setting of Rachel’s own home in Lacken, was warmly received by those in attendance. All proceeds (an amazing €505) from the gathering are being donated to Focus Ireland, the national organisation working to end homelessness, adding a strong charitable dimension to the occasion. Attendees spoke highly of the event, with one participant noting that it was “a truly calming and uplifting experience, made even more meaningful by supporting such an important cause.” Rachel’s initiative has been widely commended as an example of community spirit in action, combining personal wellbeing with practical support for those in need.

Lovely Lacken 5km Fun Run/Walk

The Lovely Lacken Fun Run/Walk is taking place on Sunday, April 19, from Bessie’s. Registration is from 1pm, with the walk starting at 2.30pm. Entry is €10 for adults, U16’s €5 and a family is €20. After the walk there will be a raffle and auction taking place in Bessie’s. All proceeds raised on the day going to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice, in memory of Mary Farrell, RIP. Killala Community Text Alert Scheme is up and running. The procedure is if you notice any suspicious activity, ring the Gardai on 096 20550 and they will decide if it warrants a text being sent to the scheme. If you are not already signed up, its not too late. Call to the community centre and fill up a form.

Meals on Wheels

Killala Community Council (Newstart) Ltd are running a Meals on Wheels service for Killala and surrounding areas. They aim to provide nourishing quality meals at an affordable price to any senior citizen who signs up. The meals will have two courses and can be collected or delivered. Orders can be taken up to 11.30 am each day. This service is available to anyone over 60 years or recovering from illness. If interested contact 096 32992 or 32484.
