Local notes: Special guest at crib blessing
The blessing of the crib in Kilkelly takes place on Friday, December 12 at 7pm and Santa Claus will also be paying a visit on his sleigh. Please come along and enjoy the fun.
Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation’s annual Shine a Light Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place next Sunday, December 7 to help raise funds for vital palliative care services in both Mayo and Roscommon. The Foundation’s Memorial Walk will precede the ceremony and will begin at the Plaza in Knock at 4pm. The Shine a Light Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 5pm with music the Rejoice Gospel Choir, Ballina.
People are invited to remember a loved one, living or deceased and share in the Shine a Light ceremony. During the ceremony, loved ones who have passed away or indeed those who have been going through a challenging time will be remembered. Prayers and music will be offered for those being remembered. Refreshments will also be served.

Christmas cards are available to purchase online and hospice mugs are available to purchase in local Hospice Shops, with all proceeds supporting palliative care services.
A visit to Aghamore for a local birthday celebration paid off handsomely for Oisin McDonald from Glencar, Co Leitrim as he entered and was the winner of last week’s Aghamore GAA 50-50 draw which came with a jackpot prize of €1,248.
A Christmas Craft Fair is being held in Kilmovee Community Centre on Saturday, December 13, from 11am to 2pm. Admission is free. All support of this worthy local event would be greatly appreciated.
The Kilmovee Community Christmas Lunch takes place on Sunday, December 14, with lunch being served at 1pm. A festive day is promised, with carol singers, crackers and a lovely two-course lunch followed by tea, coffee and mince pies, dancing and drinks. The cost is €20 per person. To book your place, choose your menu and arrange payment, call KCC on 094-96-49484. There will be live music from 2.30 to 4.30pm.
The annual Kilmovee Christmas Bingo will be held on Sunday, December 14, at 8.30pm. There are loads of valuable prizes on offer on the night, with lots of surprises. The current jackpot is €2,000 on 53 calls or less. The house lotto was won by a lucky patron last week so it resumes at €400 on four correct numbers and increases by €40 per week until it is won again. There is also a 50/50 draw with a guaranteed winner on the night.
The Midfield Development Association are presenting the Midfield Christmas Gathering in Julian’s on Sunday, December 7 from 5 to 8pm. Meet Santa and his Elves, dance to Mary Kathleen’s disco, try your hand at gingerbread cookie decorating, bring home some reindeer, get your face painted, take part in arts and crafts, and write a letter to Santa. There will be spot prizes on the night for the best Christmas outfit plus a monster raffle. Admission is €10 per child or €20 per family.
Santa Claus has informed the local committee that he is visiting Kilmovee on Saturday, December 13, from 12 noon to 3pm. To book a place with the big man himself, contact Kilmovee FRC on 094-96-49814. The cost is €15 per child.
The death took place on November 13 of Angela Geever (née Duffy), Slievemore, Cloontia and formerly of Cortoonmore, Moyne, Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon. Angela passed peacefully in the tender loving care of her family, the doctors, nurses and staff of The Mayo Hospice, Castlebar.
Angela was predeceased by her beloved father Patrick and her brother John and is survived by her husband Raymond, mother Freda, brothers Padraic, Michael and Eamonn, sisters Winifred (Rushe, Kilmovee), Elizabeth, Mary-Kathleen and Noreen, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and many friends.
Angela reposed in The Kilgarriff Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen on Sunday, November 16, followed by removal to the Cathedral of the Annunciation and St Nathy, Ballaghaderreen. Mass of the Resurrection was held on Monday, November 17 followed by interment in Kilcolman Cemetery. Sympathy is extended to all who are bereaved by Angela’s passing.

The lotto numbers drawn in the Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA lotto for Saturday November 15 were 5, 12 25, 44. There was no winner.
