Swinford AC will once again host the annual Ireland West ¾ Marathon, 10k and 5k on Saturday, September 5. Registration is open on Eventmaster. ¾ Marathon starting time is 10am, 10k starting time 10.15am and 5k starting time 10.30am.
Swinford Active Retirement for the over 60’s meet in Swinford Golf Club on Mondays from 2-4pm enjoying activities such as table games, cards, chair yoga, bingo, musical afternoons, demonstrations of craft work, talks on speciality subjects and on occasion an opportunity to meet up and just to have a chat. Throughout the year a number of trips are organised usually stopping for lunch or afternoon tea both locally and further afield.

The Teddy Bear’s Annual Picnic and Wash will take place on Saturday, August 22, at 2pm in Brabazon Woodlands. The event will commence at 1.45 with a walk from Swinford Garda Station. Admission is free as the event is kindly sponsored by Swinford Cruisers.
Swinford Go Getters meet in the Cultural Centre on Friday mornings from 10.30 to 12.30.
The morning consists of an hour of Activator Pole Walking with exercises led by a trainer and music - a good way to keep fit even in bad weather - followed by tea/coffee and biscuits. The second hour consists of a lot of laughter and fun when playing Boccia a challenge consisting of two teams namely the red and the blue team. On Saturday, August 22, Light up the Sky will take place at 7.30pm in The Butterfly Garden, Kilkelly Road, Swinford. All bereaved families are invited to come along to place a stationary lantern in the Butterfly Garden to remember their babies gone too soon. All the baby’s names will be read out on the night. Swinford Gardening Club's next trip will take place on Saturday, September 5, visiting the Battle of Aughrim site and Interpretive Centre, Ahascragh Distillery and Mountbellew Gardens. The tour departs at 8.30am from Lower Main St and costs €90. Breakfast, dinner and all entrance fees are included. The bus will leave Swinford from Lower Main St at 8.30am. The death occurred of Lisa McSharry, Terenure, Dublin, who died on Sunday, August 2. Following her funeral Mass in Terenure, she was buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Bohola on Saturday, August 8. She was daughter of Breege (Molloy, formerly of Carracastle) and John McSharry: Breege Clarke, Tenerife, who died on Saturday, August 1. Mass was offered for Breege on Saturday, August 15 in Bohola, followed by the burial of her ashes in St Joseph’s Cemetery. She was the wife of Brendan Clarke, Tenerife and Bohola; Frances Smyth (née Durkan), Bristol, UK and formerly of Clooneen, who died in Bristol on Wednesday, August 5. Her funeral will take place in Bristol, and at a later date Mass will be offered for Frances in Bohola followed by the burial of her ashes in St Joseph’s Cemetery. Sincere sympathy is extended to all the bereaved.

The committee invites parishioners at home and abroad to submit articles, photographs, memories, or local news for this special anniversary edition.
