Local Notes: Northern Gaels team brings McHale Cup to Mount Palmer NS.
After their recent victory over Knockmore in the North Mayo Junior ‘A’ Championship final in Crossmolina recently, members of the Northern Gaels team brought the McHale Cup to the National Schools in both Kilfian and Lacken parishes. Children in Mount Palmer School and principal Micheal Roche had a very warm welcome and put the players on the spot with a range of excellent questions.
There was no jackpot winner on October 15, when the numbers drawn were 2, 9, 29 and 30. Consolation prizes went to Evelyn Fleming, Mary Murphy (Foxford) and Jackie Langdon. The numbers drawn on October 22, were, 3, 9, 18 and 28. There was no jackpot winner on the night. €20 consolation prizes went to Nollaig McHale, Peter Collins and Goretti Donnelly. The jackpot this week is €10,350. Tickets are sold locally.

There was no winner of Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club lotto jackpot on Saturday night, October 18, in Sticks Bar, when the numbers drawn were 5, 9, 12 and 16. Three punters matched three numbers Patrick O’Malley Bellacorick, Enda and Jacinta Lavelle, Church View, Crossmolina, and Gary McNulty, St Patricks Ave., Crossmolina, and they each won €50. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on October 25, was €5,250.

Well known Mayo and Ardagh senior footballer James Carr is Uganda bound next month to help assist the charity Self Help Africa as part of the Plant the Planet Games. James will be one of fifty well known GAA stars amongst others who will embark on planting one million trees in Africa over a period of time. The tree planting will be of enormous benefit to the Ugandan population as it will provide a valuable source of food through its fruit, restores degraded land, improves soil quality, shade and shelter, and help prevent soil erosion, each leaving a lasting legacy. There was no outright winner of Ardagh GAA Club's monthly lotto draw held last weekend. The numbers drawn were 14, 3, 8 and 15. Lucky €50 winners were Emma Gardiner and Mabel Snee (online). Congratulations to the winners. The lotto is a vital means of raising necessary finance for the club and officials express their sincere gratitude to everyone who has purchased lotto tickets to support the fundraiser.
A 25 card drive will take place every Sunday night in the community centre starting at 8.30pm. Proceeds from the games will go towards the running of Ardagh Social Services whose members carry out magnificent voluntary work within the parish.
Ardagh Social Services in conjunction with Eilish Egan will hold a wreath making demonstration on Wednesday, November 19, from 7.30 to 9.30/10pm in the community centre and all are welcome to attend.
The Mayo Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the parishioners of Ardagh who generously contributed to their recent church collection which raised a total of €430.
