At Kilkelly Kilmovee book launch which was held at Ireland West Airport were Bernard and Annie O' Brien, Midfield, Swinford. The launch will be broadcast on TV Ireland Show on Sky channel 588 (Faith World TV) tonight, Tuesday, December 17, at 8.30pm.

Choral performances at Turlough Park

Join two of the region's leading choral groups for an atmospheric afternoon of Christmas Carols at the National Museum of Ireland, Turlough Park, Castlebar, on Sunday, December 22. These performances have become a firm festive favourite with museum visitors over the last number of years. The Cill Aodain Choral Society will perform in the exhibition galleries at 2.15pm and the Mayo Male Voice Choir will perform at 3pm. There is also a ‘live crib’ display in the courtyard with Kiltimagh Pet Farm. Admission free. No booking required. See museum.ie for further details.

Swinford Community lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on December 9, were; 9, 21, 24 and 29. Golf Club Card results

Results from the game played in Swinford Golf Club on Thursday, December 5; 1st, 2nd and 3rd shared between Margaret Sweeney, Helen Gallogly, Mary Higgins, Maureen Morley, Michael Regan and Leo Murtagh. Raffle prizes were won by Marty Munnelly, Margaret Sweeney, Margaret Waters and Matt Duggan. The game continues every Thursday night at 9pm.

Book Club

Swinford Library Book Club will meet on Wednesday, January 8, at 3.30pm in Swinford Library. New members are always welcome. Liane Moriarty’s most recent book Here One Moment will be up for discussion on the day, a nice read for the Christmas break.

GAA 50/50 draw

Concert of Seasonal Carols and Songs

Swinford Parish Pastoral Council will host a community social event in Swinford Parish Church on Thursday, December 19, at 7.30pm with performances of seasonal carols and songs by a joint choir from the three churches in the parish, a joint choir from the primary schools in the parish and the choir of Scoil Muire agus Padraig. Admission is free but contributions can be made to the An’dagi Foundation which funds Fr. Victor’s educational projects in the diocese of Ojoga in Nigeria.

Moy Davitts 50th Anniversary Commemorative Book

The Moy Davitts GAA book is now available for sale in the following outlets: Clarke's Yourstop, Bohola; McGloins Gala, O'Hara's Centra, Gannon's Post Office, Reapes shop in Foxford and the Foxford Wollen Mills. It will also be available to buy in Bookstand (Eason’s) in Ballina and Castlebar and in Castle Bookshop, Castlebar.

This special book features many previously unpublished pictures of people from the four areas as well as some great articles written by past and present club members. All boys’ and girls’ teams from 2024 are also featured.

50th Anniversary dinner dance

The new date for the Moy Davitts 50th Anniversary dinner dance is January 25, 2025. Bohola Post

The 52nd edition of the Bohola Post is on sale in all local shops. A bumper edition, it is a lovely present to send to family and friends living away from home this Christmas. It costs €10.

Carol Service

Bohola NS will host a carol service this evening Tuesday, December 17, at 7pm. A donation box will be at the door in aid of Bohola NS. All are welcome to attend this very special event.

Blessing for Expectant Mothers

There will be a blessing ceremony for all expectant parents in the Basilica at Knock Shrine on Saturday, December 14, at 11am. It will include a short prayer for protection and safe delivery with an individual blessing for all mothers-to-be who are present.

Recent deaths

The death occurred of Elizabeth Killeen, formerly of Barleyhill, Bohola, who died on November 1, in Kent, England. She was the mother of Michael (Straide) and Denis Kileen (England). She was buried in Straide cemetery on Saturday, December 7: Pakie O'Brien, Chancery, Turlough, formerly Rathruane died on Monday, December 9, and his funeral took place in Bohola on Thursday, December 12. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved.

Shraheens defibrillator

There is no defibrillator in locality of Shraheens School Mass Centre and surrounding area. The organising committee are purchasing a defibrillator as soon as they have enough funds and it will be located outside at Shraheens Mass Centre. They would appreciate any donations no matter how small or big to help make this a reality. The 18th edition of Kilkelly Kilmovee Parish Magazine launch that was held at Ireland West Airport will be broadcast on TV Ireland Show on Sky channel 588 (Faith World TV) on tonight, Tuesday, December 17, at 8.30pm. The magazines are selling very well again this year and would make a lovely gift to send to family at home or abroad this Christmas. The late Brian Egan

The death took place of Brian Egan, Cloontia, Ballymote, on December 10, unexpectedly at his home. Brian was recently predeceased by his beloved wife Marie and is survived by his heartbroken family, his children Brendan, Bridie, Francis, Declan and Evelyn, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, 12 grandchildren, his great-grandson Finley, sister Kathleen, brother-in-law Johnny, sisters-in-law Eileen and Kathleen, nephew, niece, relatives and many great friends. Brian reposed in The Kilgarriff Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Thursday, December12.

Removal took place to the Church of Saints John the Baptist and Colman, Derrinacartha, on Friday, December 13, for Mass of the Resurrection at 11am followed by interment in Carracastle Cemetery. May Brian and Marie rest in peace as deepest sympathy is offered to all who are bereaved by this double bereavement. May God comfort you all at this very difficult time in your lives.

The Late Maureen McCoy nee Burke

The death took place of Maureen McCoy, Drumacoo, Edmondstown, Ballaghaderreen, and late of Mountain, Aughamore, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo on December 8, in the Oakwood Nursing Home, Ballaghaderreen, peacefully in her 96th year. Maureen was predeceased by her beloved husband John, son Seamus, daughter-in-law Jacinta, parents Mary and James, brother Tommy and her sisters Margaret and Josephine. She is survived by her daughters Jo, Maureen and Bernardine, her sons John and Padraic, her sister Kathleen, daughters-in-law Bernadette and Emily, sons-in-law John, Brian and Jim, grandchildren Diane, Gill, Joanne, Caroline, Brian, Rose, Ben Jenny and Erin, her great-grandchildren Kelly, Emily and Hannah, her nieces, nephews, relatives, great neighbours and her many friends.

Maureen reposed in The Kilgarriff Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Tuesday, December 10, followed by removal to The Cathedral of the Annunciation and St Nathy, Ballaghaderreen, arriving at 8 pm Mass of the Resurrection on Wednesday, December 11, at 11am followed by interment in Kilcolman Cemetery. May Maureen rest in peace as deepest sympathy is offered to all who are bereaved by her passing.
