Huge congratulations to Thomas Holmes, Áine McHale, Michael McHale and Aoife Rochford (all Knockmore) on achieving gold at this year's All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Belfast with their group Glór na Sí from CCÉ Admiral Brown in Foxford under the direction of Tom and Stephen Doherty. In the highly competitive 12-15 Grúpaí ceoil category, the Glór na Sí group beat other National and International groups to win first place. Also a massive well done to Sean Holmes who took home third place in the mouth organ 15-18 age group. Pictured are the prize winners and their families.

Congratulations to Niall Brogan, son of Lisa and John Brogan, Carragorru and Regina McNulty, daughter of Pat and Paula McNulty, Knockmore, who were married in Sligo on July 4 last. Groomsmen were Eoin and Conor Brogan and John McNulty and bridesmaids were Catherine and Amanda. The reception was held afterwards in the Castle Dargan Hotel. Both Niall and Regina are wished every happiness and blessings for their future years together.
Huge crowds attended the annual Mass concelebrated by Fr Michael Reilly and Mons Sean Killeen in Cloghans Cemetery on Sunday evening last. The earlier rain gave way to glorious sunshine for the Mass. Fr Michael Reilly extended a sincere thank you to the hard-working cemetery committee who keep the cemetery to such a high standard, to all who erected the canopy and prepared the Altar for the Mass, and to all who contributed to the collection that help to maintain the cemetery.
The numbers drawn last week were; 4, 7, 9 and 10. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 weekly winner was Anna Marie McLoughlin. Your support is much appreciated for the school.
The National Knock Novena continues until Friday, August 21, with Novena ceremonies at 3pm and 8pm daily in the Basilica.
The Backs Parish Tractor, Vintage and Vehicles Run will take place in Knockmore on Sunday, September 13, with registration at 11am. The fee per motorised vehicle is €20.

The months mind Mass for the late Kenneth Clarke, Connecticut and late of Rinnmore, , will be celebrated in St Teresa's Church, Rathduff on Sunday morning next, August 23, at 10am.
The death has taken place of Patricia Gaughan, Keithley, UK, grandmother of Josephine and Bridget Reape and mother-in-law of Tom Reape, Calladashin. Deepest sympathy are extended to the family at this sad time. May Patricia now rest in peace.

The Lacken community is looking forward to its first-ever Heritage Day, which will take place today Tuesday, August 18, from 12 noon to 3pm at the Lacken Sensory Garden, located at the entrance to Lacken Strand beside Lacken Church on the Wild Atlantic Way. The event forms part of National Heritage Week 2026, joining communities across Ireland in celebrating shared history, culture and traditions. The event will celebrate the rich heritage, traditions and talents of the local community with a packed programme of demonstrations, music, crafts and family-friendly activities. Visitors can enjoy a weaving demonstration by Annie Gambrill, showcasing the journey from sheep to wool, while Myra will demonstrate the traditional art of making boxty. Des will share the fascinating story of the journey from bee to honey jar, and Sharon will demonstrate the traditional craft of willow basket weaving. Music and entertainment will be provided throughout the afternoon.
Clara Gardiner, the Mayo Rose, will perform a selection of songs along with talented Lacken girl Abbie Bourke. Mary Munnelly and Marie Ruane will play traditional tunes on the accordion and accompany The Strawboys as they entertain visitors with traditional Irish dancing.
Children will have plenty to enjoy with workshops from 1pm to 2pm, including stone painting, spinning on a drop spindle, butter making and clay workshops. Families are also invited to explore the beautiful Sensory Garden and enjoy time on the new ground-level trampoline and swing, making it a fun day out for visitors of all ages. There will also be displays of historical costumes, vintage tools, woodworking and wool crafts, together with the popular Bee Happy workshop. Visitors can enjoy homemade boxty, crêpes, teas, coffees, sweet treats and D’Briasta Ice Cream throughout the afternoon. Admission is free, and everyone is warmly invited to attend. Organisers hope the community will come together to support Lacken’s first Heritage Day, celebrating local history, traditions and community spirit while creating what they hope will become an annual event.
This years Lacken Tractor Run will take place on September 27.
LBK Walking Group continue to meet every Monday and Thursday mornings at 10am. The Monday walks follow local coastal routes of approximately 5-6km offering a relaxed and enjoyable way to stay active while taking in the beauty of the local area. The Thursday wanderers are a little more adventurous, exploring routes along the Killala greenway, Kilcummin Head, Moygownagh and Ballycastle and scenic Glens, where they enjoy some of the most breathtaking views North Mayo has to offer.

A new exhibition has commenced in The Ballinglen Museum of Art entitled "Yeats Revisited" which is an exhibition from the Ballinglen Permanent Collection in response to Yeats work. The event and book launched on Saturday 15th August and the exhibition will be on view until November 30.
The death occurred on August 8, of Stephen Tighe, Stonefield, Carrowteige. Sympathy is extended to his sisters and brothers Catherine Tomas (Padraig), Ballyglass, Ballycastle, David, Declan and Pam (Stonefield), his aunt Nancy, nieces and nephews Lorna, Arlene, Emma and Patrick (Tomas, Ballyglass), extended family, relatives and friends.
