Congratulations to Kiltimagh Knock United's Siofra McGuinness and her U15 Mayo teammates and management who have booked their place in the SFAI Cup final.
Siofra gave her usual powerhouse display in midfield in the semi-final, which laid the foundations for Mayo beating Kerry 4-1. The final is scheduled for University of Limerick on the weekend of May 19/20.
Congratulations to Thomas McNicholas and Cait McTigue who won the President Cora Waldron’s prize, played over two sessions at Kiltimagh Bridge Club. First session prize was won by Claire Cunniffe and Maureen Carney and second session prize went to Jerome Tarpey and Geraldine Forde.
Prizes were presented at the club’s annual dinner in the Park Hotel last Tuesday night, April 23, where a very enjoyable night was had by all.
Congratulations to the 33 young people from St Aidan’s and Craggagh National Schools who were conferred with the Sacrament of Confirmation by Bishop Paul Dempsey in the Church of the Holy Family on Sunday, April 21, at a special 3pm Mass.
Fr Michael Quinn PP thanked everyone who had helped to make this day so special, the children’s parents and teachers Mr Donnellan and Mr Charlton, the beautiful choir from St Aidan’s NS under the direction of Ms Lee, parish organist Richella, the You Shall Be My Witnesses Leaders and indeed everyone who made the occasion such a happy one for the 33 girls and boys on such a beautiful summer’s day.
Good wishes are extended to Bishop Dempsey who has been appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin and will be leaving Achonry shortly to take up his new appointment..
The death took place recently at the Sonas Nursing Home, Knock, of Sr Claudine (Teresa) McEnnis, St Louis Sisters and formerly of Milltown, Co Galway and Ard Lughaidh Secondary School, Bundoran, Co Donegal, where she taught for many years.
Predeceased by her brothers, Fr Frank, Fr Tom, Paddy, Joe, Kevin, Jarlath and Brendan and her sisters Sr Felicity and Vera, she will be dearly missed by her sister Eithne and her husband Jerry Hughes, her nieces and nephews, her St Louis Sisters and her many friends.
Reposing was at the O’Hora Funeral Home, Kiltimagh, with her funeral Mass celebrated the next day in the Church of the Holy Family, at 12 noon. Afterwards burial took place in Kilconly Cemetery, Milltown, Co Galway. May her kind and gentle soul rest in peace.
Twenty one players competed in Round 14, the penultimate round of the Spring Poker League in Teach O’Hora on Wednesday night last. The winner was Derry O’Sullivan, Keith Lydon was the runner up with Gerry Groarke third and Michael Sheridan fourth. The other finalists and their finishing positions were, 5 AN Other, 6 Martin Regan, 7 John Reynolds, 8 Tiernan Burke, 9 Isaac Boyle. Isaac remains top of the league table on 232 points, closely followed by Keith Lydon on 228 and Gerry Groarke on 223. The rest of the top twelve is, Mossie O’Connell 205, Nicky Cunnane 199, Michael Sheridan 198, Pat Boyle 198, Tiernan Burke 180, John Borza 175, John Reynolds 174, AN Other 172, Paul Walsh 172.
The final round of the league will be played this Wednesday night after which the top twelve in the league qualify automatically for the grand final which will have an estimated prize pool of €2,500. All other players who have played at least five rounds are eligible for a playoff tournament where the top two also qualify for the final. This play off will be held next Wednesday night, May 1, at 8pm. There will also be a regular tournament on this night for all other players.
Best of luck to Kiltimagh Knock United's Anna McDonnell and Hana Ueono and their Mayo senior women's teammates when they make their debut in the FAI Angela Hearst Inter-League Cup in Dublin next weekend. Last week's Kiltimagh Knock United 50/50 jackpot winner was Keeva Gillespie, Kiltimagh, winning €311. Thanks to everyone, as always, who supports the club's weekly fundraiser.
Kiltimagh sealed a place in the Minor League Division One semi-final with an emphatic victory away to the Neale last Tuesday evening. The visitors burst out of the blocks in the opening stages and were 17 points to the good at the half-time break thanks to goals from Fionnan Burke, Liam Smith and Callum McNicholas, with Burke, McNicholas, Oisin Mulderring, Jack Morley, Conor Hession and Jack Shannon chipping in with points for good measure in a magnificent team performance.
Playing into a strong breeze in the second half, they kept the scoreboard ticking with further points from Jack Shannon and Jack Morley, with Sean Gilmartin also coming up from goals to fire over a fine free from distance. Kiltimagh have now sealed their semi-final spot with a game to spare, with the last four fixtures to be decided following the clash with Castlebar Mitchels in a fortnight's time. The final score was The Neale 2-8, Kiltimagh 3-16.

The first, second and third prizes at the 25 drive held in the Parish Centre, Kiltimagh, on Thursday night, April 18, were divided between Ann Rowley and Geraldine Turbitt, John Gallagher and Brian McNulty and Francis McNicholas and Tom Flatley. Last 10 prize shared by Mary and Liam Moran and Aiden Lydon and Danny Doherty, spot prize went to. Tom Walsh and Hugh Forde and winners in the raffle were Michael Carney, Jack Ryan and Michael Costello x2. Game starts every Thursday at 9pm in the Parish Centre and all are welcome.

The Achonry Diocesan pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Sunday, May 19, and will be joined by the Diocesan pilgrimages of Clonfert and Galway. Ceremonies will commence with rosary at 2pm, anointing of the sick at 2.30pm and concelebrated Mass at 3pm in the basilica, followed by benediction and rosary procession.

In the U14 development league Kiltimagh defeated Ardnaree on the score of 5-3 to 1-6. The game was played in Ardnaree.
If you are aged 16 to 18 you are invited to be part of Knock Shrine and volunteer for one weekend of the summer. All volunteers for 2024 will attend an initial full day training programme at Knock Shrine. This will take place on Sunday, June 9. All completed applications must be received before this date.
