Straide death

It is with sadness that we record the recent death of Rose Curry (nee O'Neill),Tavnagh Beg, Straide and formerly of Main St., Kiltimagh, which took place surrounded by her loving family at University Hospital, Galway. Some years ago she and her late husband Bill ran a business (formerly Byrne’s Pub) on Aiden St where customers were always guaranteed a warm welcome from Rose who had a happy and outgoing personality. She was well known in the locality when she lived in Main St before moving to Straide to be with her daughter and news of her passing was greeted with a deep sense of sorrow by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Sympathy is extended to her family and friends.

Predeceased by her loving husband Bill, Rose will be sadly missed by her daughters Tracey and Geraldine, grandchildren Christina, Rebecca, Amanda, Ciara, Katie, Liam, Michael and Daniel, her great granddaughters Emilia and Isabelle her son-in-laws Michael and Jimmy, also by her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, extended family and by her wide circle of friends.

Reposing was in the Michael Davitt Community Centre, Straide, on Friday evening, June 21, with her Funeral Mass celebrated in St Peter and St Paul's Church, Straide, on Saturday. Afterwards Rose was laid to rest in Kilkinure Cemetery, Kiltimagh. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Win for minors

In a very exciting East Mayo Minor C championship game played in Ballaghaderreen, Kiltimagh, overcame the local team on the score of 0-13 to 1-9. At half time Kiltimagh were behind by 7 points and looked like being on the losing side but their management made a few positional changes and introduced subs which changed the course of the game.

In the closing minutes Kiltimagh were clinging on to a one point lead when Ballaghadereen were awarded two close in frees which they missed thus ensuring a narrow and deserved victory for Kilitmagh, Mayo Shield winners.

Congratulations to the Kiltimagh Knock United U13 girls who won the Mayo Shield last Sunday week at the league's HQ in Milebush.

In front of a large crowd, the girls came away with a hard fought but deserved (on the day) victory. Castlebar Town had already won the league, so the girls knew they were in for a tough afternoon. Huge credit to Castlebar for playing their part in an exciting and sporting final. Hopefully there will be many more finals to come for both clubs.

Junior championship

In round 3 of the County Primary junior championship Kiltimagh bowed out when they suffered a defeat by Ardagh who scored 2-13 to Kiltimagh’s 3-9. Leading at one stage by 8 points it looked like a victory was on the cards for the Coilltes but they allowed Ardagh back into the game and they went on to win by a single point.
