1st Columbarium in Mayo

St Tiernan’s Cemetery committee are pleased to announce that the first columbarium in Co Mayo will be located in Crossmolina. It was an ambition of the committee for many years and with the support of Cllr Michael Loftus, they will see it come to fruition in 2025. The committee thank Mayo Co Council for their communication and they look forward to working closely with them in the year ahead. There will be a meeting on Wednesday, April 2, at 8pm in the Enterprise Centre where all are welcome to attend.

Crossmolina Parish Cruisers

Emma will be available in Hineys on April 8, from 5 to 8pm to assist with payments, answer questions, and help with booking your excursions if needed. It is very important that by now everyone has travel insurance in place for the cruise.

Lay Ministers

Congratulations to Julia Rowland, Sandra Murphy, Breda Mulhern, Thomas Goldrick, Patricia Melvin and Willie Donohue who graduated on Friday last as lay ministers for the parish. They will be commissioned at the Mass of Chrism on April 15, in St Muredach’s Cathedral. They are thanked for their dedication to this important ministry in the parish. Everyone is invited to the Chrism Mass in St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina, on April 15.

Crossmolina Cycle, Walk and Talk

On Saturday, April 19, the Crossmolina Cycle, Walk and Talk will take place at 10am from the GAA pitch. Register for the cycle from 8.30am, over 18’s, cycleandtalk@gmail.com, or telephone 087 9884677. It is two events in one, either walk round the convent loop route, or take to the bike and cycle round the lake. A bus and trailer will be travelling behind cyclists so if you get tired you can put the bike into the trailer and yourself on the bus and chat your way back to base where there will be refreshments served. It is a slow pace leisure cycle with plenty of breaks.

Evening art classes

There will be evening art classes starting on Thursday, April 3, from 7-9pm in the Civic Centre. Registration is essential and prepayment of €60 for five classes ensures the class will take place. Tel 096 30935 for further details.

‘Easter Hope in a challenging World’ led by the lay ministry team will be held on Monday, April 14, at 7.30pm, meeting at St Tiernan’s Church.

Events at the North Mayo Heritage Centre

Some of the events taking place at the North Mayo Heritage Centre, Eircode: F26 FR94, are an organic plant and seed sale on April 5 and 6, from 11am - 3pm; and a Food and Craft Market on April 5, from 11am - 4pm. There was no winner of Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club lotto jackpot on Saturday night, March 22 which was held in The Thatch Bar. The numbers drawn were 1, 12, 21 and 33. No punter matched three numbers and three tickets were drawn; Lisa Lavelle, Keenagh, Ballina; Noel Gavin, Ballinrobe; John and Siobhan Leonard, Gortskeddia, Crossmolina, and they each won €50 each. This jackpot in the latest draw which was held on March 29, was €3,600.

Community Centre lotto

The numbers drawn on March 26, were, 2, 3, 7, 8. Consolation prizes went to Mary Forde, Teresa Flannelly and Buddy Holly. The jackpot this week is €8,850. Tickets are sold locally.

Kids Robotics Camp

The April Robotics Camp for children at Killala Community Centre is booked out. The centre will be hosting another camp later this year. Those who missed out this time will have first refusal next time.

Recent deaths

The death took place recently of Nuala Dempsey, Market Street, Killala and Tony McGarry Greenpark, Killala. They both reposed at Lynns Funeral Home, Killala and were buried in Killala cemetery after Mass in Killala Parish Church. May their souls rest in peace.
