Ardagh

Hive of Activity

Ardagh Community Centre is proving a hive of activity in recent weeks with a varied schedule of events. This is all down to the magnificent work of a group of dedicated and hard working volunteers who consistently beaver away to make the centre the hub of the community. Committee member Dermot O'Boyle lists a comprehensive schedule of activities including the following. Weekly bingo sessions are held on Saturday nights which are proving very successful with a new starting time of 8pm. A great team of volunteers assist in running the weekly event and new volunteers are more than welcome to help out on the evenings.

The adjoining astro turf pitch is a welcome addition to facilities in the locality and surrounding areas with the pitch undergoing recent renovations to the netting surrounding the pitch. It is available for hire at very competitive pricing to everyone. Bookings can be made by phoning 089-2337130. Children's birthday celebrations and family functions can also be booked through the same number with the addition of the astro turf facilities. Tuesday at 8.30pm is Ceili gym night which is a light hearted way to make new friends and get fit in the process through ceili dancing. Meanwhile, exercises to music classes with Pat O'Brien are held each Thursday evening from 7-8pm. The classes are proving hugely popular and enjoyable and are suitable for all ages and abilities. On Friday evenings it's the turn of the community's young people to use the centre for Girl Guides, Brownies, Foroige and other educational courses. So, all in all, the community centre in Ardagh is a place where all ages can come and enjoy a mixed and varied range of healthy and fun loving pursuits. Our gratitude must go to all volunteers who run the centre and to all those who participate in its broad spectrum of community based gatherings for the benefit of us all.
