Fr Victor, Grand Marshall of Swinford St Patrick's Day Parade 2024 with St. Patrick. Fr. Victor is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his ordination this year.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade results

Once again, the Swinford St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee organised and facilitated a very successful St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The favourable weather conditions assisted in the success of the event with participants and spectators alike enjoying the day.

Results: Pat Gough Memorial Most Original - Swinford GAA; Joe Thompson Memorial Most Humorous - Naionra Montessori; Best School Band – Swinford NS; Best Local Business – MG Plant Hire; Best Out of Town – The Moy Hotel Foxford; Most Topical – Kinaffe National School; Overall winner taking the inaugural Padraic Gavin Memorial Trophy was Swinford Killasser LGFA.

Siamsa Sraide kick starts celebrations with a party in New York 

Swinford Siamsa Sraide Festival are delighted to announce the start of its 40th anniversary celebrations will take place in New York this coming Friday, April 5, at 8pm in Connollys Bar, Time Square, as part of the Mayo GAA football teams championship match versus NY GAA. This year they are pulling out all the stops as they continue their fantastic annual street festival for the 40th year. Easter Egg Hunt

The 12th Annual Easter Egg Hunt takes place at 2pm on Easter Sunday in Brabazon Woodlands with the kind permission of the Park Trustees. Thanks to Derek Kennedy, Eurospar Swinford for sponsorship. Assemble at the playground early.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on March 19, were: 4, 6, 17 and 19. €70 vouchers were won by John Horkan, Dublin Road and Brendan Kenny, Brabazon Heights; €35 each was won by NJ Duffy, Dublin Road, Mary O'Hara, c/o Moore's and Gary Buckley, Swinford. The jackpot tonight is €11,800.

Golf Club Card results

Results from the weekly game played in Swinford Golf Club on Thursday, March 14; card winners were Peter Geraghty, Michael O’Neill, Carmel Timoney, Ronan Monaghan, Margaret Waters and Philip Irwin. Raffle prizes were won by Geraldine Turbitt, Mary Callaghan, Margaret Waters and Margaret Sweeney.

KCC 

Congratulations to Billy Kavanagh winner of the February Killasser Community Centre 50/50 draw winning €590. Vincent Conlon and Paul Walsh each won a €20 spot prize. The next draw (March) will take place on Sunday, March 31.

Service of Remembrance

The Butterfly Garden committee are delighted to announce that Feileacain will host the Mayo Spring Service of Remembrance on April 14, at 3pm in the Gateway Hotel.

GAA fundraiser

Swinford GAA 7 a side fundraiser on Easter Monday, April 1, from 11am to 4pm will take place in Swinford Amenity Park. €10 per player, prizes to be won, over 16’s only. Bake sale also on day. For further information contact Dylan 087 4459313.

Blath na Féile

This year Blath na Féile will take on a new and different format. The organisers are calling all past Blath’s (everyone who participated, not just crowned Blath’s) to compete in the ultimate Queen of the Blath’s. 2024 is a big year for Síamsa Sráide Street Festival celebrating 40 years and is also the 10th anniversary of the first Blath na Féile winner.

Spring Clean

Swinford Tidy Towns are once again taking part in the National Spring Clean with the annual Good Friday Spring Clean taking place on Friday, March 29. The meeting point on the day will be at Swinford Courthouse at 11am.

Swinford Killasser LGFA registration

Club registration remains open until March 31. If you missed the club's registration open evening you can still register your membership on the GAA Foireann app. If you are having difficulties with the app, contact Carmel Heaney or Trish Smyth.

Gardening Club

Horticulturist Conor Brennan will give a talk on 'Spring in the Garden' at 8pm on Tuesday, March 26, in the Meeting Room on Lower Main St. He will be happy to answer questions from the audience. Talks are free to members, non-members €5.

Swinford AC Spring 5k series

The Swinford AC Spring 5K Series will commence on Wednesday, April 3, in Killasser and will continue until May 8 as follows - April 10 Meelick, April 17 Swinford, April 24 Midfield, May 1 Foxford and May 8 Kiltimagh. Active retirement

Swinford Go Getters

Swinford Go Getters meet on the first Thursday of the month from 1.15 to 3.15pm in the Cultural Centre for Activator Pole Walking which helps improve posture. There is also a game or two of Boccie. €4 per day which includes tea and biscuits. Remaining Thursdays there is a walk from 1.15 to 2.15 to help keep active. Clothes collection

Kiltimagh Knock United's fundraising clothing collection returns this Easter. You are asked to donate reusable and clean, old and pre-loved clothes - all women's, men's and children's clothing, handbags, belts, all paired shoes, also curtains, bedlinen, towels, blankets and soft toys. No pillows or duvets.

The collection days are Saturday, March 30, from 11am to 1pm and Bank Holiday Monday, April 1, from 11am to 1pm at the Kiltimagh Knock United clubhouse, CMS Park, Cloonlee, Knock (F12 HF61). 

‘Paige Fright’ an ode to Joy

Knock Drama Group presents ’Paige Fright’ An Ode to Joy at Aghamore Community Centre (F35 AT21) on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6, at 8pm. Bereavement Programme at Knock Shrine

Kilmovee 10k and 5k

The Kilmovee 10k and 5k will be taking place on Saturday, March 30, at 1pm and registration is now open at www.kilmovee10k.com. The committee are thankful to all sponsors who help them cover costs meaning more funds goes to Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and the Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA club. The organisers look forward to welcoming you to Kilmovee on Easter Saturday as they continue to grow and become a runners, joggers, or walker's favourite each year.

A cash for clothes collection in aid of Glann church is taking place. All items of clean clothing accepted, also paired footwear, handbags, belts, towels, bedlinen, blankets, curtains and soft toys. The late Cormac McDonagh

The death took place of Cormac McDonagh, Lissergool, Tibohine, Castlerea on March 11, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family in the wonderful care of Eithne and her staff in the Oakwood Nursing Home, Ballaghaderreen. Cormac was recently predeceased by his wife Laura. He will be sadly missed and remembered by his sons Eamonn and James, daughters Mary (McCann) and Collette, grandchildren Ella and Jonathon, sisters Mary (Whelan) and Bernadette (Shannon), son-in-law Darragh, sisters-in-law Mary (Rushe) and Peggy (Balfe), nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Cormac reposed in The Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Thursday, March 14, and removal took place on Friday, March 15, to St Baoithin’s Church, Tibohine (via Lissergool) arriving for Mass of the Resurrection at 11.30am, followed by interment in Tibohine (new) cemetery. May Cormac rest in peace as sympathy is offered to all who are bereaved by his passing.
